I like to imagine this is a picture taken on Harry and Ginny’s wedding day.

In my head this will always be a picture that Mr Weasley took on a Muggle camera that Hermione and Ron brought him the Christmas before. (Only Hermione really brought it, because Ron was off in a bookshop trying to find a book she’s never read before… which proved impossible, so in the end he secretly built her a new bookshelf without any magic and found out her favourite quote about knowledge and inscribed them it on in ancient runes with only one misspelling. When he gave it to her she burst out crying and to stop her he asked her to marry him even though he’d planned to do it on New Years Eve with fireworks that Harry was going to help him enchant, he just couldn’t help himself. Of course she said yes straight away but they agreed to wait until the following autumn because they were both so busy with work and she was working on a new translation of some Egyptian spellbooks on the side… wait I was talking about Harry and Ginny, wasn’t I?) Yes, it’s a muggle picture from their wedding that Hermione helped Arthur get printed out for everyone. Harry’s hair looks is so straight because Mrs Weasley was so frustrated with how messy it was at the rehearsal dinner that she took him to a hairdressers on Diagon Alley to get it magically flattened. Harry agreed to go because Fleur begged him to get Mrs Weasley out of the Burrow for a few hours before one of them killed each other. Ginny thought he didn’t look like himself so kept trying to mess it up at every opportunity but it would only last for a few seconds before wilting back down which had her in fits of giggles the whole day. So Ginny’s trying to mess Harry’s hair up and is laughing at it falling back in to place whilst Mrs Weasley is shouting at her and Harry’s laughing at Hermione patiently trying to explain that there isn’t in fact any ‘cheese’ involved in taking a picture, it’s just what Muggles say to make people smile when they’re having their picture taken. But Harry’s looking down too because all day he’s been slightly welling up. He’s thinking about the last time there was a wedding in the Weasley garden and how much he’s lost since then and remembering his 17 year old self and how he never imagined he’s do anything as normal or as wonderful as getting married. And he can’t believe he’s marrying Ginny. Beautiful, wonderful Ginny who won’t stop laughing for Mr Weasley to take the picture. And George is in the corner pulling faces to try and make Ginny laugh even more. And Harry can hear Luna (who was a bridesmaid with Hermione, and little Victorie) telling an ever bemused Ron about the spell she performed on Ginny’s bouquet earlier to be sure no Nargles were lurking in there. And Arthur is shouting at Hagrid to move to the side because he’s casting a shadow on the picture but Hagrid can’t hear because he’s having a loud argument with Charlie about the new regulations for dragon egg trade in Yugoslavia. And somewhere Fleur is cooing to Hermione’s Mum and Dad about Ginny’s dress and ‘ow she did Ginny’s ‘air and isn’t ‘arry ‘andsome’ whilst Bill watches her adoringly. And Harry’s glad that he let Molly invite all these people even though initially he’d only wanted something small because it’s been too long since he saw Oliver Wood and he’s glad Krum made it over; Harry loved watching Ron watching Hermione greet him – and she did so amicably but very prominently waving her ring finger in his face just to set Ron at ease. He’s happy to see everyone from school amongst his colleagues and family but pretty glad Cho couldn’t make it after Ron’s mention of Harry’s inability to ask a girl to the Yule Ball despite having just slain a dragon in his Best Man’s speech. He’ll forever be grateful (even more than he already is for all the times she’s saved him) to Hermione for casting a protective spell around the burrow which keeps those without an invite, namely Rita Skeeter, out (although it did lead to a moment of confusion when Neville arrived without his invite and kept getting hitting an invisible shield around until McGonagall kindly informed Hermione who let him in) he wants this day to be about him and Ginny and not about The Chosen One. And it is. It’s about him and Ginny and everyone who loves them being together and sharing their happiness. Their happiness which is so beautifully captured by Mr Weasley when he finally presses the right button and stops worrying about cheese and birdies. It ends up being Lily’s favourite picture of her parents and she keeps it in a frame by her bed when she finally goes to Hogwarts.

To all those who don’t think the rape joke was a problem, or rape jokes are a problem.

I get it, you’re a decent guy. I can even believe it. You’ve never raped anybody. You would NEVER rape anybody. You’re upset that all these feminists are trying to accuse you of doing something or connect you to doing something that, as far as you’re concerned, you’ve never done and would never condone.

And they’ve told you about triggers, and PTSD, and how one in six women is a survivor, and you get it. You do. But you can’t let every time someone gets all upset get in the way of you having a good time, right?

So fine. If all those arguments aren’t going anything for you, let me tell you this. And I tell you this because I genuinely believe you mean it when you say you don’t want to hurt anybody, and you don’t see the harm, and that it’s important to you to do your best to be a decent and good person. And I genuinely believe you when you say you would never associate with a rapist and you think rape really is a very bad thing.

Because this is why I refuse to take rape jokes sitting down-

6% of college age men, slightly over 1 in 20, will admit to raping someone in anonymous surveys, as long as the word “rape” isn’t used in the description of the act.

6% of Penny Arcade’s target demographic will admit to actually being rapists when asked.

A lot of people accuse feminists of thinking that all men are rapists. That’s not true. But do you know who think all men are rapists?

Rapists do.

They really do. In psychological study, the profiling, the studies, it comes out again and again.

Virtually all rapists genuinely believe that all men rape, and other men just keep it hushed up better. And more, these people who really are rapists are constantly reaffirmed in their belief about the rest of mankind being rapists like them by things like rape jokes, that dismiss and normalize the idea of rape.

If one in twenty guys is a real and true rapist, and you have any amount of social activity with other guys like yourself, really cool guy, then it is almost a statistical certainty that one time hanging out with friends and their friends, playing Halo with a bunch of guys online, in a WoW guild, or elsewhere, you were talking to a rapist. Not your fault. You can’t tell a rapist apart any better than anyone else can. It’s not like they announce themselves.

But, here’s the thing. It’s very likely that in some of these interactions with these guys, at some point or another someone told a rape joke. You, decent guy that you are, understood that they didn’t mean it, and it was just a joke. And so you laughed.

And, decent guy who would never condone rape, who would step in and stop rape if he saw it, who understands that rape is awful and wrong and bad, when you laughed?

That rapist who was in the group with you, that rapist thought that you were on his side. That rapist knew that you were a rapist like him. And he felt validated, and he felt he was among his comrades.

You. The rapist’s comrade.

And if that doesn’t make you feel sick to your stomach, if that doesn’t make you want to throw up, if that doesn’t disturb you or bother you or make you feel like maybe you should at least consider not participating in that kind of humor anymore…

Well, maybe you aren’t as opposed to rapists as you claim.

Vicky Form is a Mexican lingerie company that has recently released a campaign called ”New commandments for women.”
They read,

1. I shall never call another woman a whore.
2. No one can convince me from not wearing a condom.
3. I shall never get pregnant just to keep a man by my side.
4. No one can judge me based on the number of people I’ve slept with.
5. Is my responsibility to fight for my own (woman) rights.
6. I will not tolerate any kind of violence towards myself.
7. I will not fear or be ashamed if I find myself attracted to woman.
8. It is my decision if i want to get married or not. (and don’t deserve to be judged for it.)

I find this campaign to be a ‘big deal’ for the fact that is released in Mexico. One of the most sexists, closed minded and underdeveloped countries in the world.

Not so many companies take the risk to make advertisements like this because they’re obviously going to be criticized and possibly be affected by it.

Someone is taking the risk, telling the truth, and trying to get to the minds of the people. Sharing the fact that we are all human, and have to be equally treated like it, leading to a better and more developed society.
Its a big step for Mexico, and for women.
